If you are a couple with one person who loves warm, lovely, tropical beaches of gorgeous Caribbean colors like all the blue and green gemstones from the palest green peridot to navy blue lapis lazuli, and another person who would much rather be hiking and photographing some rugged, rocky area, then Aruba is the perfect place for you.
The beaches along the West Coast, lined with fabulous resorts, are the perfect location for lounging on the warm sand and catching up on that book you have been meaning to read, or swimming, snorkeling, waterskiing, kitesurfing, parasailing, or just taking a relaxing catamaran cruise around the island. The rugged beaches along the Windward coast, on the other hand, are the perfect place to explore the many coves and inlets formed in the limestone by the pounding waves.
Swimming is not recommended on this coast but the beaches are more quiet, secluded, and provide some incredible views of the Caribbean. All the beaches on Aruba are public and visitors and locals alike are welcome to enjoy them.
When you have both agreed that it’s time to see something other than some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, this is absolutely not a problem on Aruba as you can head to the Arikok National Park.
Unusual on Caribbean islands, Aruba hides this hidden treasure of the rugged interior of the island, complete with twenty miles of hiking trails, perfect for the photographer longing for some truly unique shots.
One thing you can both agree on is that imbibing on delicious, local food is a requirement in any location and Aruba has you covered. To get around this delightful island nation, you can rent a car, take the inexpensive and reliable buses or hop a taxi, all of which have set fares for destinations. The high-rise strip area is home to over 100 resort and independent restaurants which offer an incredible diversity of culinary delights from around the world. Be sure to take time to venture downtown as well, as this is where you will find unique local delicacies and trendy new establishments.
After dinner, when you are ready for a night on the town, Aruba again has you covered. With plenty of beach and pier bars everywhere, it’s easy to pop in for a fresh tropical drink or have that same drink on a romantic sunset cruise which departs from Palm Beach. For a more exciting evening out, many of the resorts offer shows which are equal in spectacle to some in Las Vegas and there are even ten resort casinos on the island.
After a long day and night on this incomparable island destination, head back to your sumptuous hotel room in one of the area resorts, throw open your curtains, and enjoy your midnight view of the full moon shining on the water.
And enjoy the fact that you have several more days to enjoy all this paradise has to offer. After all, you haven’t even been shopping yet!
I have put Aruba high on my list of destinations to visit this year. I’m thinking of heading that way in November for Carnival with parades, incredible costumes, and amazing music.
