Although we discovered Door County, Wisconsin for the first time in the winter, we have now visited during the summer twice and it’s impossible to say which is our favorite season, although I have to admit that there is a substantial contrast between the two.
One thing that hasn’t changed, however, is our love for the charming Little Sister Resort. I stayed there with our grown daughter and grandson last summer and wrote about it and decided to return again this summer with even more family members. Last summer, we stayed in one of their two bedroom chalets, but because we had more people in our group this year, we opted for a three bedroom house which was the perfect choice. The resort offers a variety of chalets and cottages, many of which overlook the bay.
Little Sister Resort is hidden away in the woods in Sister Bay right on the shore of Little Sister Bay. It’s truly one of the most idyllic locations for a resort we have ever experienced. With a variety of accommodations, a full, hot breakfast included in the price, a waterfront restaurant, and plenty of non-motorized water sports available, you will never want to leave.
We checked into our wonderful abode for the week and could not have been more pleased. Located just a block or so from the dining room/reception area on a quiet, wooded street, our three bedroom ranch house was lovely.
We really loved everything about our comfortable house with a full kitchen and two bathrooms, but the living room with a beautiful stone fireplace and cozy furniture was our favorite place.
After a comfortable night in our fabulous lodgings, we were excited to share the amazing hot breakfast that Little Sister Resort offers every morning with the members of the family who had not yet experienced it. They always have a couple of choices which come complete with a different and equally delicious freshly baked, hot bread offering. You can choose to have half of both options if you want; for example, a pancake and the scrambled eggs. In addition, there is a fresh fruit buffet and they offer to prepare something else if the daily offering is not to your taste. The daily breakfast is a great, economical option for families as well as a real treat!
Little Sister Resort has bikes to ride but the best activities for us on this trip were all the water sports that were available. We were really disappointed last summer when the weather was unseasonably cold so we were thrilled to actually be able to enjoy the many options offered at the dock and beach area of the resort on this trip.
The pebble beach area is truly beautiful and the dock is furnished with some of the nicest wooden lounging chairs I have seen at any resort. Fred and Fuzzy’s Waterfront Bar and Grill is an open-air restaurant located right at the beach which makes it perfect to grab a local beer to enjoy on the beach.
The beach area offers a number of water sports options which include kayaking, paddle boats, a rowboat and canoe, and stand-up paddle boarding. There are also plenty of life jackets available.
The water is crystal clear and, although is chilly, it felt good on this warm summer day. We spent most of the day just hanging out and enjoying all the offerings. Kayaking was the first choice and our daughter, son-in-law and grandson had a ball.
Next up was stand up paddle boarding. This can be a challenge to learn because it does require balance but the bay is the perfect place to practice with its calm water. Our grandson and daughter have both been paddle boarding before so they loved the experience at Little Sister Resort.
Our grandson talked me into taking out the paddle boat and it was actually a lot of fun.
It was the perfect summer afternoon. We had a ball with all the water sports available, spent time relaxing in the comfy lounge chairs on the dock, swimming, and using the paddle boards for relaxation as well as exercise!
This was just one afternoon of our wonderful stay at Little Sister Resort but we truly enjoyed every minute of our visit to this quiet, secluded, family friendly location. It’s the perfect choice for a place to stay when you visit Door County.
Full disclosure: Our stay was provided by Little Sister Resort , but as always, I will share my honest opinion about any travel experiences I have.
