What to Pack for a Chicago Summer Cruise. by janross53
In a couple of weeks, we are heading out on another adventure in the world of cruising and we are pretty darn excited. After years of cruising on mammoth ocean liners, we have discovered the joy that is the small ship adventure. We have experienced a river cruise ship in Europe, a yacht in British Columbia, and now we are looking forward to a small ship cruise on Lake Michigan with Blount Small Ship Adventures.
Originally, we were just looking for a port of embarkation to which we could easily drive and had not even considered the Great Lakes for a cruise. Who knew there were cruises of Lake Michigan which left from Chicago – only a few hours drive for us?
We were thrilled to find the Magical Lake Michigan cruise with Blount and immediately worked out a cruise with them. We had visited Chicago for the first time in February and were excited to go back for a pre-cruise visit. Not only that, the cruise visits Door County, Wisconsin which is one of our favorite places and Mackinaw Island which I have wanted to see ever since I saw “Somewhere in Time” with Christopher Reeve. It even stops in places like Beaver Island which I have never even heard of but looks like a really great place. The whole cruise should be a completely fabulous experience.
Well, look.
See what I mean? Fabulous.
We love the way you can get close to smaller destinations and enjoy a comfortable, relaxing experience on a small ship like the Grand Mariner. The cruise line offers very reasonably priced shore excursions at every port although we will be making our own way as we look for article ideas and photo opps. The cruises themselves are also very reasonably priced and they even offer special deals, like two for one offers on select cruises. Of course, all your meals are included onboard as well as refreshments and wine and beer are even included with lunch and dinner. An unusual and very nice plus is that Blount encourages you to bring your own liquor onboard and will even provide the mixers, ice, snacks, and storage.
So I’m in the midst of planning and packing my summer clothes for this new and exciting adventure as I get inspiration from Polyvore.
In fact.
I’m so inspired that I think I might need to do a little shopping.
I don’t think I have quite enough clothes. Or shoes. Or jewelry.
OK.
Maybe more than a little shopping.
Full disclosure: Our cruise is provided by Blount Small Ship Adventures but, as always, I will share my honest opinion about any travel experiences I have.
