Destination: Destin

Guess where I'm going this weekend?

Say you are having lunch with someone and they tell you that their husband is not able to go on the long weekend trip to Destin, Florida after all and they will have to drive all that way all alone and they look at you rather sadly, what do you do? What do you do?

You say “I can go with you”! and then you run home and get out your bathing suit and your suitcase because really? What else do you need when you are staying at this fabulous resort?

I have visited Destin before on quick day trips when we were staying in Pensacola and have always marveled at the incredible white sand and gorgeous water that shifts in color from jade green to turquoise to navy blue, much like the waters that surround the Caribbean islands I have visited.

Just like this, in fact.

I started checking out hotels in the area but when the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort came up as an option, there was no point in looking any further. I’m very excited to visit and check out the entire area, but it looks very similar to some of the resorts I have stayed at in Mexico and the Caribbean with tons of different kinds of accommodations to meet the needs of any size group, restaurants, shopping, a variety of activities and then, of course, there is the fabulous beach.

Where I may plunk myself in the morning and not stir again until it’s time to get ready for a fabulous seafood dinner at one of the restaurants right on the resort grounds.

I have not seen another place that offered so many different amenities as part of your stay – free bikes!! have to take advantage of that for sure.  There’s all kinds of packages and special deals that make this place really affordable for families. One of the nicest things about the resort is that they have condos and houses, which are really what I prefer for a vacation.

I love having a kitchen – even though I plan on eating out every night! It’s just really nice to have a place to keep drinks and snacks and even items for breakfast and lunch so you can splurge on those dinners out. These accommodations are absolutely perfect for families as well.  We will be staying in a two-bedroom condo so I’ll let you know what I think.

In fact, I’ll be letting you know what I think about Sandestin  and Destin during the next few days as I’ll be live-blogging all about our mini-vacation. Restaurants, shopping – oh, yeah Destin has an outlet mall so I might actually have to get up from my beach chair at least once – and things to do around town in addition to lying on the beach without a care in the world.

Which sounds pretty darn fabulous.

What about you? Been to Destin? Any tips?

Full disclosure: Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort is providing us with accommodations,  but as always, I will share my honest opinion about any travel experiences I have.
